'Kaleidoscope' series
These photographs were part of a long-term project in which I used reflection and rotation to make a kaleidoscope pattern out of natural materials, collections of things stumbled across - seaweed, rock, plants, logs, bark - or out of still life materials, such as silver foil, rubber gloves, shot silk.
In fact the idea was to wrench patterns out of natural objects. It\'s a kind of seeing things in detail, and then adding to that detail by using the imagination to impose an order that isn\'t really there. So it\'s a visual joke, which with a bit of luck gives the viewer a second or two of surprised recognition.
Each of the pieces I exhibit is comprised of actual, unmanipulated photographic prints which have been reversed and/or rotated, then mounted together to make one image. Since I produce these in a large format, they have quite a visual punch.
