Portraits

Currently I'm playing around with the idea of bringing a series of very diverse portraits into one body of work.

The self portrait here is composed of one image, but capturing my head in two visible positions. At that moment I was thrilled to see my day-old niece.

The portrait of my son, Ruari, is almost life-size and was composed on a huge piece of MDF. It uses a great deal of collage material, and photographs of him taken over two or three years, so that in the end the portrait captures his passage from adolescent into young man.

As for the portrait of Little Elisabeth - it's one of a series of Little People which together represented my 2010 open house show (for more details of our bi-annual open house, please see The Dog House page of this site). It was the beginning of an interest in using Photoshop to full creative effect. This picture was taken in my studio, using a dining chair from downstairs, with sunlight flooding in through the window.

I'm currently planning a portrait of my daughter Harriet.
